About Program: Professional counselling support available through a range of service options and assistance in managing life’s complexities whether work-related, health or life.  Available to Members insured at the Bronze, Silver or Gold Benefit Level and their dependants. 

Addiction/Rehabilitation Programs & Treatment Funding

Funding/reimbursement for Treatment/Rehabilitation:
 

  • What is the benefit: Financial assistance for in-patient treatment at a facility recognized as a rehabilitation centre for the treatment of drug or alcohol addiction
     

  • Amount Available: Once-in-a-lifetime up to $10,000 for in-patient charges. An additional amount of up to a maximum of $500 is available for after-treatment follow-up when an invoice is submitted within six weeks of the conclusion of the treatment. Payment is not made to any provincial healthcare plan.
     

  • Eligibility & Terms: In good standing with AFBS for at least 5 years prior to making application.

Extended Health Benefits Specific to Mental Health:

What is the Benefit/Value: The reimbursement percentage, per visit maximum and annual maximum are based on the Members’ insurance Benefit Level. 

Eligibility: Insurance at the Bronze, Silver or Gold Benefit Level

 

How to Claim: From March 1, 2024 onwards, Members will be eligible to submit claims through the ClaimSecure eProfile™ app or on claimsecure.com. This includes all extended health care (EHC) claims, and dental and prescription drug claims that cannot be filed electronically at the dental office or pharmacist at the time of service. Claims incurred prior to March 1, 2024, should continue to be submitted by mail. When submitting your claims digitally through the ClaimSecure eProfile™ app or on claimsecure.com, you will find important information relating to your claims and any reimbursement in the View Claims section under the Claims tab. Please familiarize yourself with this section. If submitting your claim via mail, an Explanation of Benefits will be mailed to you outlining the same information. This an important document (along with copies of your receipts) for tax purposes and cannot be reissued. Please keep Explanation of Benefits documents in a safe place.

Short-Term Disability Program

Short-term Disability Administered by: AFBS

Description of Benefits: 60% of eligible ACTRA/UBCP, ACTRA and WGC earning reported to AFBS to a weekly maximum of $1,500.  7 day waiting period before benefit payments commence.  Maximum benefit period is 52 weeks. 

Eligibility: Eligible Earnings Calculation - The higher of all ACTRA (including UBCP/ACTRA) and WGC income reported: a) Over the past two calendar years, divided by 104; or b) Over the past calendar year divided by 52.
